The UK has some of the worst housing stock in Europe, with the highest number of people in fuel poverty, and one of the highest spends on household income on energy costs. We consistently deliver the minimum standard when it comes to new construction, and are failing entirely to deliver zero-carbon housing. As the houses of today will likely still be standing in 100 years’ time this is setting ourselves up to fail upon our commitment to achieve a zero carbon economy by 2050.

The solution is simply to build better housing, using simple and robust technologies combined with good building design, high levels of insulation, and sustainable materials, to achieve net-zero carbon and net-zero energy, both in construction and in use.
