RESIDENTIAL BUILDINGS ACCOUNT FOR OVER 20% OF UK CO2 EMISSIONS

It is an accepted fact that the degree to which we will be affected by climate change is directly proportional to the amount of CO2 that we continue to pump into the atmosphere. The overriding priority of our time is to reduce CO2 output, and therefore the UK has committed to reach net-zero emissions by 2050.

40,000 PREMATURE DEATHS A YEAR ARE CAUSED BY AIR POLLUTION

As a major contributor to emissions that is clearly a problem our homes need to address if we are to stand a chance of meeting our climate obligations, our obligation to create a better future, and our obligation to our own wellbeing.

Every house constructed now will likely still be standing in 100 years’ time, so the buildings we build now must be suitable for our vision of a zero carbon future. We must start delivering net carbon zero housing immediately.

1 IN 5 PEOPLE IN THE UK HAVE OR WILL DEVELOP A RESPIRATORY DISEASE

Pollution and airborne allergens are believed to be a major contributor or trigger of respiratory conditions like asthma and COPD.

Zero carbon buildings not only reduce the emissions that cause this pollution, but the building design required to reduce emissions actively reduces the presence of pollution and airbourne allergens by ensuring a constant supply of filtered fresh air and a breathable structure that controls humidity. Zero carbon design is not just about saving the planet, it is also about directly protecting the wellbeing of building occupants .

THE UK HAS ONE OF THE HIGHEST HOUSEHOLD SPENDS ON ENERGY IN EUROPE

Not only does the UK have one of the highest household spends on energy in Europe, but it has the highest number of people in fuel poverty.

These statistics are as avoidable as they are shocking. A zero carbon house also means net zero energy bills. No heating costs, no big energy bills, no pre-payments, no enormous bills, no monthly direct debit, nothing.

For people to still be living in energy poverty in the 21st century is appaling. To still be constructing homes that require energy input when we have the means to deliver otherwise is worse.

Nobody likes paying bills, whether rich or poor. Zero carbon means zero bills, zero bills means more disposable income and greater wellbeing.
